The Park, Kolkata opened for business on November 1, 1967 with 150 rooms. The following year a beautiful beachside hotel The Park, Visakhapatnam became the group's second hotel and the first deluxe hotel of Andhra Pradesh. The Park, New Delhi was launched in November 1987, in the heart of the Capital on Parliament Street with 224 rooms. The Park, Bangalore, an urban retreat, with 109 rooms was launched in 2000 in the Silicon City of India. The Park, Chennai, an urban haven of 215 rooms, located on Anna Salai in the heart of the business district of Tamil Nadu's vibrant capital was launched in May 2002. Currently, a 100-room hotel is under construction in Navi Mumbai to cater to the increasing corporate travel requirements of the region. All the hotels lay a very strong emphasis on contemporary design in its private and public spaces. Antique and contemporary furniture dots the space. Colourful comforters add a refreshing and playful touch. THE PUBLIC AREAS - LAYERS OF INDULGENCE An angled table peeps through the silk curtains and draws you into a dining area - Monsoon the 24-hour restaurant. I-BAR is the lounge bar that encapsulates the energy and dynamism of the wireless era. The unique techno-electric feel of the space, transports all to a high-energy field. Hot neon colours, gleaming in the dark, create a funky mood. Clusters of soft beanbags, and low furniture let guests create their own personal spaces. A wall of rich carpet woven in a pattern is suggestive of a circuit board. In India's Silicon City i-bar catalyses people to converge, communicate and interact with each other i-t.ALIA offers authentic Italian cuisine in a setting that is casual yet elegant. The masculine dark timber floor complements the charcoal black upholstery and is accented by the warm lime green sofas in the niches. Imported prosciutto and Parmesan, wood-oven pizzas, exquisite seafood, delicate home made pastas and a wide range of vegetarian items bring in the genuine flavours of Italy. A ceremonial entrance from the lobby leads one to a space of contemporary calm THE OAK ROOM. Rich and elegant panels clad in oyster coloured "bamboo fabric" with discreet shuttering along the window wall contribute to the plush décor. The doors open out onto a specially landscaped terrace, which is lit at night with specially designed lamps. All sides of the THE BLUE BOX, the 'screening' room are cobalt blue. It is an intense abstract space, which can be dimmed down to a night-time setting or be illuminated for a Board Room situation. It can be laid out as a table for 14, two tables of 10 each, a formal cinema for 24 or a chill out space for up to 20 people. The back wall is built out as a projection facility and there is a retractable screen opposite.
THE PRIVATE SPACES - ECHOES OF INDIAN LANDSCAPES Move on to the residential floors by lifts that luxuriate in rich black leather. The doors open onto a splash of colourful carpet that picks up the landscape of each floor. Each floor is seen as a panorama, containing an oasis indicated by intense spots of colour in a large landscape and suggestive of the variety of experiences and cultures throughout India. The first floor depicts a cool expanse of water signified by the base colour of 'aqua' with a burst of the sun signified by dashes of 'orange'. The next suggests a mountain landscape with the use of 'iris' with 'pale lime' trees providing the relief. The 'bright Lime' of the jungle on the third floor greets you, offset with regal 'emperor red' flowers. The fourth floor - The Residence - reflects elegance with 'saffron' denoting the desert and the oasis is reflected in splashes of 'ultramarine blue'. The luxury of the rooms using silk, leather, pure Oak wooden floors and glass - a mixture of materials, modern and traditional, create a unique in-room experience. A custom-made 10 inches luxurious mattress,, soft duvet and goose down pillows framed in a modern four-poster bed, dominates the room. Many rooms have balconies with deck chairs that let one recall the relaxing moments of a beachside holiday.
